Quitting vs. saying "Fuck This Shit"

If you had to pick, which one would you go with?

What do you do when you haven’t had a proper vacation in years, and you are barely scraping by, but if something catastrophic comes your way that has the potential to wipe you out, and yet you still have to keep your chin up (at least above water)?

It’s okay to say “Fuck this shit.”

Quitting gets a bad rap sometimes. We all heard growing up that quitters never win, that you have to stick it out, and that you need to give it just a little more.

But there is something called “mental bandwidth” that sometimes gets in the way of us giving a fuck about continuing.

It’s time we stop demonizing quitting.

Quitting can mean you got yourself out of a toxic relationship. Quitting is the nice and bullshit way of saying you don’t want to do something anymore. Quitting also has a connotation of leaving the door open for a future with whatever you’re trying to get away from.

Maybe quitting needs to be rephrased as saying “fuck this shit.” At least with fuck this shit, it has a punk rock stick-it-to-the-man type of vibe. Quitting sounds like fuck this shit’s nerdy-ass brother. Fuck this shit doesn’t leave anything left for any future possibilities of leaving the door open.

If you get to the “Fuck this shit” part of dealing with something, chances are you’re well past the burnout stage.

Quitting is telling the bully that you’re not gonna deal with it anymore. Fuck this shit is knocking him the fuck out.

Quitting is telling that toxic family member that you’re not gonna put up with their BS anymore. Fuck this shit would have you ghost them altogether with no explanation, never to acknowledge their existence ever again. Or knocking them the fuck out too.

Chances are, you’ve gone full blown fuck this shit in the past. If you haven’t, go for it. Think of a situation you’re dealing with, and apply fuck this shit to it. What will that look like? How much lighter will you feel from not carrying that burden anymore? As long as you’re not hurting anyone who doesn’t deserve it. And don’t go getting arrested, become wanted by the law, or worse. You can convey fuck this shit without getting yourself in trouble.

I personally have said fuck this shit to many toxic people in my past. Who knows when it’ll happen again (since my radar and patience for people’s bullshit gets shorter and shorter as the days go by). And there is a great deal of gratitude to be had because of it. If you think to yourself “And I should have done it sooner!”, then you are on the right track. If you are familiar with Superman lore, that’s gratitude from the bizarro world. You acknowledge that it is the right decision, and you have so much conviction in that decision that if you could travel in time to do it sooner, you would. There is gratitude in sticking to your guns.
